The Foldio app
Foldio runs entirely in your web browser. The PDFs and images you add, your edits and your projects are processed and stored on your own computer, in your browser’s storage. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. If you clear your browser’s data for this site, your projects are deleted; save a .foldio file to keep a backup.
Usage counts in the app
To learn what works, the app sends us short, anonymous notes about the steps people reach: for example that a book was started, which layout and paper size were exported, or whether a print came out right, how long an export took, or that something failed (only what kind of failure, never its details). They never include your files, the text or names of your books, or your email address. Each browser gets a random number, not linked to an account, so we can tell a returning visit from a new one. Our host, Cloudflare, tells us which country a visit comes from; we keep only that two-letter code, never your IP address.
When you answer one of our short questions (“Did it print correctly?”, “How would you feel if you could no longer use Foldio?”) or send feedback, what you write is sent as you wrote it. Your email address is only included if you choose to add it, so that we can reply.
Nothing is sent if your browser asks sites not to track you (Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track), or if you turn the counts off here:
We delete usage counts, answers and feedback after 13 months.
Your account
An account is optional. If you create one, we keep your email address, your name if you sign in with Google, when you signed up and your plan, so you can sign in and use what you’ve paid for. Foldio’s small team can see this list to answer questions and ask early users for their views. Your books never reach us, signed in or not.
Sign-in codes and trial reminders are sent through our email provider, Resend, which handles your email address only to deliver them. If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google confirms your address to us. Sign-in codes are deleted within two days, and a session ends after 60 days or when you sign out.
You can delete your account at any time from the account menu in the app. Your email address, name, plan and purchases are removed straight away. If you used a free trial, we keep only a one-way fingerprint of your address, which can’t be turned back into it, so the trial can’t be started again. Your books stay in your browser.
The free trial of Pro
If you start the free trial, we also keep when it ends and the language you were using, so we can send you one reminder email three days before the end. To keep it to one trial per person, we also store a simplified form of your email address (for example, without “+” tags), and the app leaves a small note in your browser that a trial has been used. That note stays on your computer. We don’t use IP addresses for this. No payment details are involved. When paid plans are on sale, our merchant of record, Paddle, handles payments, and we never see your card details.
Template artwork
If you choose a template with artwork, the app downloads its pictures from this website. Those requests don’t include your files or text.
Stock photos
If you search the photo library in the editor, the words you type go to our server, which looks them up on Wikimedia Commons and sends back the results and pictures. Wikimedia sees the search coming from us, not from you. We don’t store your searches, and none of your files or text is sent.
Fonts
When you choose a Google Font in Foldio, the app downloads that font from the Fontsource font server (via jsDelivr) the first time you use it, then keeps it in your browser. The request only names the font; none of your files or text is sent. Fonts you upload yourself stay on your computer.
Reading scanned pages
When you ask Foldio to read a scanned page, the app downloads the language data via jsDelivr the first time, then keeps it in your browser. The request only names the language. The reading happens on your computer, and your pages are never sent anywhere.
Keeping the service safe
To stop abuse, such as floods of sign-in emails, our host Cloudflare counts the requests from each network address for about a minute. We never see or store those addresses.
This website
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn’t use cookies or track you across sites; we see totals such as page views, referring sites and countries. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.
The launch list
If you join the list, we store your email address, the language you signed up in and, if you chose one, what you mostly make, with our email provider MailerLite. We use it only to tell you about Foldio Pro and Foldio updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.
